DVM
Veterinarian
Chicago Recruitment, Office of Academic and Student Affairs
Dr. Tracey Hlede graduated from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in 2006. Prior to joining the Chicago Center for Veterinary Medicine and the Furnetic veterinary clinic, she worked at the Pulaski Animal Hospital in Chicago. Dr. Hlede has a passion for providing the most advanced care for her animal patients and thoroughly educating her clients on their options in any given situation. Her passion to provide top-notch animal health care and work with clients drew her to work for the University of Illinois. She also enjoys giving back to her profession by sharing her knowledge and expertise with future veterinarians and providing them with the tools they need to excel. As a representative of the College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Hlede also visits high schools, grade schools, colleges, and career fairs to educate inner-city students on the importance of veterinary science and how they can enter the field. She also runs a monthly mentoring program for Chicago-area high school students that explores the science and challenges of veterinary care.
Dr. Hlede is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association (ISVMA), the Chicago Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA), and the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). As a member of the CVMA's Animal Welfare Committee, she has a strong interest in researching and promoting animal welfare issues, international veterinary medicine, and public health issues among the profession.
In her free time, Dr. Hlede loves to travel and learn new languages. She speaks Spanish, some Italian, and is currently learning Croatian. She enjoys watching old movies and foreign language films with her cats, Pumpkin and Smokey, and camping with her husband, Vjekoslav, and their two dogs, Loza and Ramona.
